Tenterden
Tenterden near to Ashford is deep in the heart of the Weald of Kent. Walking down its tree lined high street you will soon realise that this picturesque town has escaped the modern day changes that so many of our high streets have suffered.   Tenterden High Street
Tenterden’s prosperity began around the13th century in the wool trade. In 1331 Edward III stopped all exports of untreated wool and brought skilled weavers and dyers from Flanders to teach their skills to local people
St Mildreds Church The large tower of St Mildreds church towers over the high street once used has a navigation aid for ships sailing into Smallhythe. On a clear day from the top you can see the costal regions of France. Over the past centuries the coast line has been reclaimed and it is now some ten miles from the coast. St Mildreds dates back to 12th century, in the early nineteenth century one of the past vicars Phillip Ward married Horatia Nelson the daughter of Lord Horatio Nelson between them they had 7 sons and 3 daughters.

If you are a steam enthusiast you will love the Kent and East Sussex Railway

The line runs between Tenterden and Bodiam and is open most of the year.
