The large tower of St Mildreds church towers over the high street once used has a navigation aid for ships sailing into Smallhythe. On a clear day from the top you can see the costal regions of France. Over the past centuries the coast line has been reclaimed and it is now some ten miles from the coast. St Mildreds dates back to 12th century, in the early nineteenth century one of the past vicars Phillip Ward married Horatia Nelson the daughter of Lord Horatio Nelson between them they had 7 sons and 3 daughters. |
